Most of my work deals with my current state of mind. Therefore my paintings strongly reflect my mood and feelings. It is very interesting to look back and observe for myself how my artwork has changed. I remember in my early series my work was quite male, dark and destructive. It was dealing with inner conflict, anger, and diremption. The background was mostly held in black. Whereas the next series focussed on femininity, beauty and fragility. The colors where much lighter, with a returning sky blue or pale grey. The additional liquids in this series, called “Beauty“ series, imitates the various masks we use in our everyday life to hide and protect ourselves. Compared to very early paintings showing a clean portrait, I was surprised by how easy a personality can be hidden by small adjustments. Also I understood beauty had a healing effect on my soul and my personal situation at the time.#art #artist #painting #oil #canvas #honey #beauty #inprogress

A head full of dreams, 2016, Diptych, Oil on canvas, 195x300cm ———————- The woman in the picture is a lady I know personally. She is a strong women and lived an intense life, witnessing Second World War, followed by the great economic upturn for some decades as well as the beginning of the financial crisis… this women has seen so many changes and inspired me to the work “A head full of dreams”. The work can be seen from both perspectives: the normal lady who is dreaming about a badass life in prosperity or the grand dame, questioning herself whether she is if she is living her life the way she wanted it to be… ———————– The work is part of my current solo show “Transformation” at C24 Gallery in New York and will be on view until February 25! ———————– #transformation #contemporaryart #painting #oil #realism #old #lady #change #reflection #dreams @c24gallery

Looking Back, 2016, Diptych, Oil on canvas, 195x300cm ———————– This handsome guy is somebody I know very well. I admire him and loved painting this work of him. His personality is very humorous and inspired me to do “Looking back” for my new “transformation” series. Both paintings are showing one and the same person. The one you can see on the left seems to be dreaming what may have become of his life. The one on the right seems to be looking back, questioning himself and his decisions… ———————– The work is part of my current solo show at C24 Gallery in New York and will be on view until February 25! ———————– #transformation #contemporaryart #largescale #painting #realism #flashback #backthen #tb #newyork #oil @c24gallery

Transformation, 2016, Oil on canvas, 520x420cm ——————————— “This Self-Portrait painting is representing a transformation the artist has recently experienced. He is depicted calm and praying focusing on his inner self. The pink canvases represent the last attempt at something and deciding to make a decision to move on or stay the course. The green canvases, which are a larger part of the work represent hope after making a decision. The fractured canvases depict the puzzle of life one faces and needs to solve in order to be at peace with oneself. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together is the journey representing the Circle of Life.” ——————————— This work is on view until February 25 at @c24gallery New York #transformation #soloshow #portrait #selfportrait #painting #realism #largescale #art #newyork #chelsea #circleoflife #change #puzzle #pieces
